San Antonio to Guthrie, Oklahoma

Day 5

sunny 104 °F

Hello from Guthrie, Oklahoma.

After our 5:50 am wake up call this morning, (guessing the dogs didn't get the memo that we were sleeping in until 6:30) and an arm wash from Sunny (dog) and a complaint from Chief (basset dog that couldn't seem to reach the bed) we moved to the couch to have some puppy time and explain to the dogs that their real dog-sitter was on her way. Of course they went right back to sleep. Served the dogs their breakfast and repacked the car.

First stop was in Austin, Texas for breakfast and a quick visit with Sarah and her family. Christine used to work with Sarah at the Cabana. Sarah, her husband Daniel and 2 year old daughter Margaret treated us to a nice traditional Southern breakfast (pancakes with fried chicken and sausage gravy on biscuits) and sent us on our way with a wonderful goodie bag. Thank you again Sarah and Daniel.

Not sure if you can see from the photo, the chips are actually cut in the shape of the state of Texas! Who-dah thunk!!

Sarah and Daniel highly suggested a quick stop in West, Texas for some Kolaches. So, of course we did. :)

Needless to say, after these two stops, the trip was uneventful and scenery non descript. We had a few slow downs for road works and a burning vehicle on the side of the road (police/fire trucks/ambulance were already there). All that was left of that truck was the frame and a bit of smoke and a young couple that looked shaken up talking to police officers a ways away from the truck.

Only took a couple quick stops after the kolache shop to refuel the car once and use the bathroom. Oklahoma seems to enjoy gambling as there were tons of casinos before OK City. The world's largest being one of the first we saw.

We arrived in Guthrie, Oklahoma about an hour later than planned, but still happy with our time. We found a hotel near the highway and are checked in and relaxing for the night. Tomorrow morning we meet up with our friend Kay from Stillwater, Oklahoma and then it will be back on the road to Kansas City, MO. for 4 nights. On this note, we will wish you all a good night :)
